Inflammation in the body and exposure to chemicals are becoming the norm in the Western Culture. We don't always eat the best, many of our foods are sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, all designed to kill the bugs that eat
plants but the downside of that is they also end up killing off a lot of our good gut bacteria.
Additionally every product we use contains a range of chemicals, think women for example and how many chemicals we put on our bodies each day. There's spray tans, nail polish, foundation, eye shadow plus many of us dry clean our clothes or use washing products with a number of toxic chemicals in them.
The question is what do we think this is doing to our long term health and what can we change?
Thanks to modern day living of highly processed diets and highly toxic products we put our body's into a chronic state of inflammation which then begs the question..
Is there a link between the products we use and the foods we eat which leat to inflammation and ultimately cancer?
The short answer to this is YES!!
So what are some of the things we can do about it?
Reduce Chemical Exposure:
Switch from chemically loaded products to more natural ones. Mumma's Own All Natural Products contain no nasties, are good for the environment and even better for you. Additionally think about changing to more natural make up such as mineral makeups and using organic shampoos and conditioners.
Omega 3 Fatty Acids:
These days we get quite an imbalance of fatty acids with too many Omega 6's and not enough Omega 3's which are required to help to regulate inflammation. Add in either some more oily fish or a good quality fish oil to your diet to reduce inflammation.
Vitamins A, C, E, zinc and selenium are all powerful antioxidants and readily available in good quality, organic fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds. These antioxidants help to free the body of harmful substances and preventing oxidisation in the body and therefore minimising inflammation.
Isn't that just the greatest thing discovered.... Turmeric is an amazing anti-inflammtory spice which is great added to food and can be easily supplemented. Adding this to your diet along with garlic, rosemary and ginger will support detoxification of the body and reduce inflammation.
Yay... love this one.. it's a flavonoid found in red wine (thank you god), grapefruit, onions, apples, black tea, garlic and ginkgo biloba. It has anticancer actions and inhibits the flow of histamines (for those with histamine issues) and acts as an antioxidant.
We're supposed to get it from the sun yet most of us are deficient.. Vitamin D regulates the immune system, reduces inflammation and can stop cancer cell proliferation by encouraging cell death. Low serum levels of Vitamin D are associated with increased risk of developing cancer.
Removing chemicals from the home and changing your diet isn't as difficult as you might think and the reality is we need to take a "prevention is better than cure" approach rather than trying to shut the gate once the horse has bolted.
Eastern cultures treat their body's with respect and maintain their health whilst they're healthy as opposed to our Western approach of waiting until we're virtually bed ridden before we do anything about it.
We spend more time and money keeping our cars running and our houses standing than we do on keeping our own body's going and really out of all of those things which one is going to be the hardest to replace? That's right people.... Take a good look at how you're doing things and maybe it's time to make a change.
Until next time, have a great day
